Flowchart Cheat Sheet
One page with every symbol, the three control structures, how each Java statement maps to a symbol, the loop comparison table, and common mistakes. Best for a final look before the quiz.
Practice Worksheet + Answer Key
8 "draw the flowchart" problems (sequence, if-else, else-if, while, for, do-while, sentinel, largest of three) and 3 code-tracing problems. The answer key starts on a new page, so you can print the problems alone and swap papers with a classmate.
Java example programs
Each file has its flowchart written as a comment at the top, so you can compare the drawing with the code. Run one with javac PassFail.java then java PassFail, or paste it into any online Java compiler.
| File | Structure | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| AreaOfRectangle.java | Sequence | Input length and width, print the area |
| PassFail.java | if-else | Passed if score ≥ 75, otherwise Failed |
| LetterGrade.java | if-else-if ladder | Converts a score to A / B / C / F |
| DayName.java | switch | Day number to day name, with break and default |
| CountWhile.java | while | Prints 1 to 5 |
| SumFor.java | for | Sum from 1 to n |
| PasswordDoWhile.java | do-while | Asks for a password until it's correct |
| SentinelAverage.java | Sentinel while + if | Averages numbers until -1 is entered |
Study tips
Draw, don't just read
Cover the flowchart in a lesson, read only the Java code, and try to draw it yourself on paper. Then compare.
Trace with a table
For loop questions, make a table with one column per variable and write each new value as you go. It's slow but you won't make mistakes.
Quiz each other
Take the mixed quiz side by side with a classmate, then explain your wrong answers to each other.
